But today, that story is changing — and the change has a face. It is the face of a man whose leadership has brought peace, purpose, and development to his people.
In just one year in office as the chairman of Gagarawa Local Government, Barr. Abubakar has done what many thought was impossible. He united the people. He reconciled rivals. Under his leadership, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gagarawa now stands as one strong, peaceful family. The era of bitter politics is over — and even members of the opposition have crossed over, drawn by his humility, fairness, and open-door leadership style.
Unlike many before him, he governs with simplicity. He gives opportunities to ordinary people and breaks old political habits. For the first time in Gagarawa’s history, contracts are being awarded to the common man without the infamous “10% kickback.” This alone has restored trust and inspired confidence in local governance.
His compassion extends beyond politics. In health, he has quietly paid the hospital bills of many who could not afford care. In education, his record speaks loudly — scholarships for all students from Gagarawa in universities, colleges, and health institutions; new school blocks; teaching materials; and a bold sponsorship of 100 young people to pursue NCE programs. He even ensured that 1,000 Fulani children returned to school — a move that speaks volumes about his vision for inclusive education.
Just last week, Gagarawa witnessed something historic. The Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi visited the town to launch the chairman’s mega empowerment project worth hundreds of millions of naira and also commissioned several completed projects — including the renovated central mosque, an Islamiya school, and the new gate entrance to Gagarawa town among others — all testaments to a leadership rooted in action, not talk.
Last weekend town hall meeting added another proud chapter. People from all political camps came together to celebrate Usman Muhammad, one of Gagarawa’s sons who attained the rank of Commander of Narcotics and Deputy Commander of NDLEA, Kano State. The joy, laughter, and togetherness on that day captured what the chairman has built — unity, peace, and brotherhood.
Like Mahathir Mohammad of Malaysia, who transformed his nation through discipline, vision, and unity, the Gagarawa chairman is reshaping the political and social landscape of his community. His leadership proves that development begins when leaders serve, not rule.
Gagarawa once stood divided. Today, under Barr. Abubakar’s leadership, it stands united, peaceful, and full of hope — a living example of what true service can achieve.
