In a significant boost to business activities in the state, Governor Malam Umar Namadi has commissioned a landmark solar-powered electricity project in Dutse Ultra-Modern Market. The project, which aims to provide electricity to almost the entire market, is part of the state government’s efforts to enhance business activities and promote economic growth.
The commissioning of the project which held at Dutse Ultra modern market on Thursday 2nd October, 2025 has brought smiles to the faces of business owners in the market, who have long struggled with the challenges of inadequate power supply. “This project is a game-changer for us,” said Alhaji Aminu, a trader in the market. “We can now operate our businesses without the worry of power outages, and this will definitely increase our productivity and sales.”
The project, which connects 300 shops to a central solar grid and provides each shop with a free solar-enabled ceiling fan, is expected to reduce the cost of electricity for business owners and improve their overall productivity. Governor Namadi has also advised business owners to apply for loans from the Bank of Industry (BOI) in Dutse, which was brought in by the state government to enhance business activities.
The state government invested N4 billion, while BOI added N2 billion to support business activities across the state. The project is part of the government’s efforts to promote economic growth and development in the state.
During the event, the marketers association endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Namadi for a second term in 2027, citing their remarkable economic and infrastructural strides. Governor Namadi has been vocal about his support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing the president’s visible changes and economic reforms.
The commissioning of the solar-powered electricity project is a sign to Governor Namadi’s commitment to promoting development and economic growth in Jigawa State. The project is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of business owners and residents in the state, and it will be interesting to see more of the government’s initiatives in the coming months.
