The Jigawa State Government has officially handed over the site for the reconstruction and remodelling of the palace of the Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Maje, in a move aimed at preserving the cultural heritage and upgrading the historic structure.
The ceremony, held at the palace in Hadejia, was presided over by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim, who was represented by the Director of Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Babandi Habu Sule.
Speaking during the event, the SSG said the project is designed to safeguard the historical significance of the palace while improving its functionality, safety and aesthetic value.
He noted that the initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening ties with traditional institutions across the state, which he described as critical partners in governance and community development.
“The reconstruction and remodelling of this palace is not only about infrastructure, but also about preserving our rich cultural heritage and ensuring that traditional institutions continue to thrive in a modern and safe environment,” he said.
Malam Bala Ibrahim further urged the contractor handling the project to adhere strictly to specifications and ensure timely completion in line with the contractual agreement.
The event was attended by key government officials, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Baffale Abbas, the Head of Works in the SSG’s office, Bala Dauda, and the Procurement Officer, Nura Mu’azu.
As part of the ceremony, a formal handover note was signed between the contractor and the state government, represented by Baffale Abbas.
In his remarks, the Emir of Hadejia, who is also the Chairman of the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs, expressed appreciation to the government for the initiative, describing it as timely and significant.
Represented by the Galadima of Hadejia, Alhaji Usman Abdul’aziz, the monarch commended Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi for promoting a conducive environment for traditional institutions to operate effectively.
He assured the government of the continued support and cooperation of traditional rulers in advancing peace, unity and development across the state.
The contractor, Alhaji Umar Kaila, whose company is handling the project, pledged to deliver quality work within the stipulated timeframe.
He said the firm would adhere to professional standards to ensure the palace reflects both its cultural importance and modern architectural needs upon completion.
The reconstruction of the Hadejia Emir’s palace is part of broader efforts by the Jigawa State Government to preserve heritage sites and strengthen traditional institutions as key stakeholders in grassroots governance.
