The Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD), Jigawa State chapter, has lauded Governor Malam Umar Namadi Danmodi for recognising and rewarding excellence among persons with disabilities in the state.
The commendation was made by the Chairman of JONAPWD in Jigawa State, Hon. Adamu Jigawar Tsada, who expressed the association’s appreciation to the governor for personally honouring one of its members, Malam Dahiru Ibrahim Barma, a teacher at the School for the Blind, Dutse-Limawa.
Hon. Tsada explained that Malam Dahiru Ibrahim, a J-Teach teacher, distinguished himself while representing Jigawa State during the recent World Teachers’ Day celebration held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where his performance drew national attention and commendation.
According to him, in recognition of the teacher’s outstanding contribution and dedication to the teaching profession, Governor Namadi rewarded Malam Dahiru with a permanent appointment, full sponsorship for a Master’s degree programme, and a cash gift of one million naira.
He described the gesture as a rare show of encouragement that would not only motivate teachers with disabilities but also inspire other public servants to strive for excellence, regardless of physical challenges.
“This honour is a source of pride to JONAPWD, the teaching profession and Jigawa State at large. It clearly demonstrates that ability, talent and commitment can thrive despite physical limitations,” Hon. Tsada said.
The JONAPWD chairman further noted that the governor’s action aligns with his administration’s inclusive governance policy, which places value on merit, hard work and equal opportunities for all citizens.
He called on other stakeholders to emulate the gesture by supporting persons with disabilities to reach their full potential, stressing that empowerment and recognition remain key to building a more inclusive society.
Hon. Tsada concluded by reaffirming the association’s belief in the popular slogan: “There is ability in disability.”
