The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has announced plans to host its maiden Ramadan lecture aimed at addressing the dangers of fake news and promoting ethical journalism.
The lecture, titled “Jawabi Daga Malamai,” is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. prompt at the NUJ Secretariat in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
In a statement signed by the Acting Secretary of the Council, Comrade Aminu Umar Shuwajo, the union disclosed that Associate Professor Abubakar Sani Birnin Kudu will deliver a paper on “The Dangers of Fake News and the Positive Role of Journalism from an Islamic Perspective.”
According to the statement, the theme was carefully selected in view of the growing spread of misinformation and disinformation in society, particularly through digital platforms. It noted that the lecture would examine the responsibilities of journalists in upholding truth and professionalism, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, will serve as Chairman of the occasion.
The NUJ called on journalists, scholars, public officials and members of the general public to attend the event, describing it as a timely initiative to strengthen ethical standards in journalism and foster greater public trust in the media.
