Suspected armed robbers have abducted a newborn baby from a 19-year-old mother in Kidnawi 2 community, Maraban Gurku, in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday night, took place in a community located about 18 kilometres from the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Narrating her ordeal, the mother, Aisha, said the attackers stormed her room at about 11:00 p.m. while she was asleep with her baby.
“I was asleep when I heard a loud knock on my door. I asked who was there, but before I could react, two hefty men had already forced their way into my room,” she said.
“One of them grabbed my neck and covered my mouth, while the other took my baby and ran away.”
Aisha said she struggled to raise an alarm but could not get immediate help.
She added that her husband was not at home at the time of the incident, as he is currently in Lagos.
The community leader, Chief Abubakar Yusuf Mai Anguwa Baƙo, confirmed the incident, noting that it has been reported to the police.
According to him, security operatives have begun efforts to trace the suspects, although no breakthrough has been recorded so far.
A neighbour also said residents did not hear Aisha’s cries until after the attackers had fled. He added that members of the community have conducted a search but have yet to find any leads.
Efforts to get a response from the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer were ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
