The rising influence of the Gidan Amana movement championed by former Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede, is steadily redefining the political landscape of Jigawa State and beyond.
What began as a grassroots support platform has rapidly evolved into a formidable socio-political movement driven by ideology, justice, fairness, and people-oriented leadership, a sharp departure from the long-standing politics of money and personal interests.
Across communities in Jigawa and neighboring states, youths, women, opinion leaders, and critical stakeholders are increasingly identifying with the ideals of Gidan Amana, describing it as a movement capable of producing not only a governor, but even future national leaders.
The movement gained momentum following Babandede’s declaration of interest to contest for the Jigawa North-East Senatorial seat under the platform of All Progressives Congress.
Although he did not emerge as the consensus candidate, the overwhelming support he enjoyed at the grassroots level inspired the birth of Gidan Amana, a platform created to sustain hope, unity, and political consciousness among his supporters.
Today, what many initially dismissed as a mere political consolation platform has transformed into one of the most discussed movements in Jigawa’s political space, dominating conversations across social media platforms and conventional media circles.
Political observers say the movement’s growing popularity lies in its strong ideological foundation, people-centered approach, and the credibility associated with Babandede’s public service record.
As the political atmosphere ahead of future elections gradually takes shape, Gidan Amana is increasingly being viewed as a movement that could significantly influence the direction of politics in Jigawa State and potentially beyond.
