The Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, has commended the member representing Mallam Madori Constituency in the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Hamza Babayaro, for his commitment to addressing the long-standing flood problems affecting communities in Mallam Madori Local Government Area.
The commendation came during an event attended by top government officials and community leaders, where residents of Kampala community expressed appreciation to the state government and their lawmaker for executing critical drainage and flood control projects that have brought relief to thousands of people.
For more than four decades, residents of Kampala community had endured annual flooding, resulting in the destruction of houses, loss of property, health hazards and, in some cases, loss of lives. The recurring disaster had become a major concern for the community during every rainy season.

According to the Chairman of the Kampala Development Forum (KDF) and District Head of Kampala, Ibrahim Zakar Al-Kampaly, the situation changed after Hon. Hamza Babayaro assumed office and took the community’s concerns to Governor Umar Namadi, who approved interventions aimed at permanently addressing the problem.
He said the projects have significantly improved drainage channels and reduced the risk of flooding, allowing residents to enjoy greater peace of mind during the rainy season.
Among the completed projects is the closure of a dangerous flood channel in Kampala and the construction of a proper drainage route linking the area to a large water reservoir located behind Mallam Madori town.
Another intervention involved the reclamation of the long-abandoned Yar Buzuwa gully, which had posed serious dangers to nearby residents for many years. The area has now been restored, with community leaders expressing hope that it could be developed into a healthcare facility in the future.
Similarly, work was carried out on the Tunballe erosion channel, where floodwaters previously caused widespread destruction across Kampala, Dunari and other parts of Mallam Madori. A new drainage route has now been created to divert the water safely towards Buroni Burona, reducing the threat to surrounding communities.
Residents, including men, women and youth, expressed gratitude to Governor Namadi and Hon. Hamza Babayaro for responding to their plight and implementing projects they described as life-saving.
They noted that the intervention has restored hope to families who had suffered repeated losses over the years and prayed for continued success for the governor and the lawmaker in serving the people.
The event was attended by several prominent government officials, including the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, Senator Ahmad Abdulhamid (Mallam Madori), House of Representatives member Hon. Makki Abubakar Yalleman, chairmen of Mallam Madori and Hadejia Local Government Councils, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Hon. Sagir Musa Ahmed, and other dignitaries.
