The Jigawa State Government, in collaboration with PLANE with the support from UK AID and DAI, held a 2-day sensitization workshop on the Accelerated Basic Education Programme (ABEP) at Tahir Guest Palace Dutse on 10-11th September, 2025.
In his welcome address, the PLANE state team lead Mustapha B. Ahmad said the programme aims to align with the state’s response to out-of-school children’s access strategy, widening knowledge and understanding of the government’s specific initiative in addressing the out-of-school need and accelerating access to quality provision.
Abubakar Nashabaru PLANE Jigawa Official said the objectives of the program is to foster collaboration between formal school systems and Tsangaya centres to integrate literacy, numeracy, life skills, and vocational learning, mobilize and sensitize stakeholders on the benefits of ABEP, promote sustainability through partnerships with government, development partners, and private actors, and address cultural, religious, and socio-economic barriers to children’s participation, especially for girls and marginalized groups.

The Chairman of All Local Government Areas of Jigawa State (ALGONE), Dr. Sibu Abdullahi, assured that the 27 local government areas of the state will key into the Tsangaya school system as part of their unwavering commitment to ensuring no out-of-school children in Jigawa State. He commended PLANE for their efforts and urged them to continue the good work.
The Head of Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Department, NCAOOSCE Jigawa State Office, Suleiman Haruna Musa, appreciated the organizers of the workshop, stating that the programme will provide a unique opportunity to share ideas and collectively chart a way forward in addressing the challenges of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), noted that improving education at all levels is part of Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s 12-point agenda. He commended PLANE for their efforts in basic education programs and stated that the state government is building modern Tsangaya schools in the three senatorial zones of the state.

The Executive Secretary of Tsangaya School, Dr. …, said that PLANE is complementing the efforts of Governor Malam Umar Namadi in his 12-point agenda, and that the state government is passionate about Tsangaya schools, aiming to ensure 0% of out-of-school children in the state.
The Chairman of the Association of Alarammas Jigawa State Chapter, Alaramma Malam …, commended PLANE for their efforts, stating that the programme has come at a time when it is required, and that integrating Tsangaya into the western education system is a welcome development.
