Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, on Monday paid an unannounced visit to the State Secretariat in Dutse, where he reportedly found many government offices locked and several top government officials absent during official working hours.
The Governor arrived at the Secretariat at about 11:00 a.m. as part of what appeared to be a routine inspection aimed at assessing attendance and work commitment among public servants.
During the visit, Governor Namadi was said to have discovered that a large number of offices were under lock and key, while many commissioners, permanent secretaries and other senior government officials were not at their duty posts.
Daily trust teport that among the few senior officials found in their offices were the Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Gambo Malam, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock Development, and the Head of the Civil Service, Alhaji Muhammad Dagaceri.
The Governor reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the situation, particularly the absence of key government functionaries during normal office hours.
Witnesses said the Secretariat appeared unusually quiet, with only cleaners and a few support staff seen carrying out their routine duties while many offices remained deserted.
Although Governor Namadi was visibly displeased by what he observed, he did not address journalists or issue any immediate directive before leaving the Secretariat.
The surprise inspection has, however, generated discussions among civil servants, with many viewing it as a clear indication of the Governor’s commitment to enforcing discipline, accountability and improved service delivery across the state’s public service.
Governor Namadi has consistently emphasized the need for efficiency, punctuality and dedication among public servants as part of his administration’s drive to strengthen governance and ensure that government institutions deliver quality services to the people of Jigawa State.
