The Trade Union Congress (TUC), Jigawa State Council, has commended Governor Umar A. Namadi for what it described as his purposeful and worker-centred leadership, pledging continued partnership between organised labour and the state government.
The TUC leadership stated this during a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim, where the union formally introduced its newly constituted state leadership.
Speaking during the visit, TUC Chairman, Comrade Ali Sa’adu Dutse, praised Governor Namadi for initiating and executing numerous development projects across key sectors of the state since assuming office in 2023.
He listed education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, youth empowerment and workers’ welfare among areas where the administration had made significant interventions.
According to him, the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, regular payment of salaries, gratuities and pensions, as well as its emphasis on transparency, peace and sustainable development, had earned the confidence and support of organised labour.
“Governor Namadi has demonstrated sincerity, commitment and passion in serving the workers and people of Jigawa State. His visible developmental strides, especially in workers’ welfare, are commendable,” Comrade Sa’adu said.
The TUC chairman expressed confidence that the governor’s achievements and labour-friendly policies would further strengthen the relationship between the state government and organised labour.
He also prayed for Allah’s continued guidance, protection, wisdom and success for Governor Namadi as he leads the state towards greater development.
Responding, the SSG, Malam Bala Ibrahim, thanked the TUC leaders for the visit and assured them of the government’s commitment to maintaining a cordial relationship with labour unions.
He said the administration had stabilised the state and local governments’ contributory pension scheme and maintained regular payment of salaries and pensions.
Malam Bala also said the government had implemented the new minimum wage across all salary structures, describing the development as part of its commitment to improving workers’ welfare.
He assured workers that the administration would continue to promote fairness, transparency and progress, while urging them to remain committed and dedicated to their duties.
“We will continue to stand in solidarity with you. Together, we will build a stronger and more prosperous Jigawa,” the SSG said.
The TUC delegation was accompanied by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Industrial Relations, Comrade Ibrahim Ahmed Kwaimawa.
