Residents of Garko community in Hadejia Local Government, Jigawa State, have issued an urgent plea to the government for immediate intervention to rescue their community from severe flooding caused by continuous rainfall. The flooding has displaced hundreds of people, including Almajirai in the nearby Tsangaya School.
This is not the first time the community has been affected by flooding. In 2024, the same disaster occurred, and yet, no intervention was received from the government or any organization. The community is now facing the same situation again in 2025, leaving them feeling abandoned and helpless.
The Chairman of the Association of Tsangaya Teachers in Jigawa, Ibrahim Abubakar, has appealed to Governor Malam Umar Namadi to visit the community and witness the devastating situation firsthand. Abubakar believes that if the Governor sees the situation, he will sympathize with the community and realize the seriousness of the issue.
The community is questioning the absence of their leaders, including the Senator, Member of the House of Representatives, Member of the State House of Assembly, and Local Government Chairman. They are urging these leaders to visit the community and witness the situation.
The community is pleading with all levels of government to come to their aid immediately. Families are stranded, children have no shelter, schools are submerged, and livelihoods are being destroyed. The community cannot continue to live in hopelessness and needs urgent intervention to rescue them from this tragic situation.
