The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Jigawa State Command, has commenced its 2026 Eid-El-Fitr Special Patrol aimed at ensuring safe and hitch-free celebrations across the state.
The exercise, which began on March 17 and will run until March 22, is designed to address the anticipated surge in human and vehicular movement during the festive period.
Sector Commander, Corps Commander Umar Masa’udu Matazu, said the command has put in place comprehensive measures to guarantee the free flow of traffic and reduce road crashes on highways and major roads.
He disclosed that a total of 439 personnel and 120 Special Marshals have been deployed across the state, supported by eight patrol vehicles and four ambulances to enhance rescue operations and emergency response.
Matazu explained that the special patrol would focus on intensive public enlightenment campaigns, strict enforcement of traffic regulations, prompt rescue services, and quick clearance of road obstructions.
He listed key offences targeted during the operation to include overloading, mixed loading, overspeeding, route violations, use of mobile phones while driving, and other forms of reckless driving.
The Sector Commander also stressed that the command would intensify enforcement against underage driving and dangerous behaviours often associated with festive celebrations. He added that mobile court operations would be conducted to prosecute offenders.
Other offences to be checked include lane indiscipline, failure to use seat belts and child restraints, passenger manifest violations, operation of rickety vehicles, illegal use of spy number plates, and conveying passengers in trailers.
Matazu urged motorists and other road users to comply with traffic rules and regulations to ensure their safety and that of others.
He further reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout the Sallah period and wished all citizens a peaceful and successful Eid-El-Fitr celebration.
