The Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board has refunded the sum of N3.4 billion advanced by the state government to facilitate the smooth conduct of the 2026 Hajj operations, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and prudent financial management.
The Director General of the Board, Alhaji Ahmad Umar Labbo, formally handed over the funds to the Jigawa State Government, marking the full repayment of the loan granted by Governor Malam Umar Namadi to enable the board secure Hajj seats early for intending pilgrims from the state.
A statement issued by the board said the refund was made in full without any deductions or interest, describing the exercise as a demonstration of accountability in the management of public funds.
According to the statement, the financial support provided by the governor played a crucial role in ensuring that the board met the deadlines set by Saudi Arabian authorities for the reservation of Hajj slots, thereby guaranteeing participation of Jigawa pilgrims in the 2026 pilgrimage.
Speaking during the handover, Labbo expressed appreciation to Governor Namadi for what he described as unwavering support for the board and the welfare of pilgrims.
He noted that the governor’s intervention enabled the board to complete all necessary arrangements for the pilgrimage on schedule, contributing to the successful participation of Jigawa pilgrims in the 2026 Hajj exercise.
The Director General said the board remained committed to maintaining the highest standards of financial discipline, transparency and accountability in the discharge of its responsibilities.
He also reaffirmed the board’s resolve to continue improving service delivery to intending pilgrims through efficient planning, timely execution of Hajj operations and prudent management of public resources.
The Jigawa State Government has consistently provided financial and logistical support to the Pilgrims Welfare Board in recent years, a move widely credited with enhancing the organisation of Hajj activities and improving the welfare of pilgrims from the state.
