The Concern Initiative Development for Vulnerable People (CIDEV) has commemorated the 2026 World Breastfeeding Week with a sensitisation programme aimed at promoting healthy nutrition and exclusive breastfeeding among women in Gidan Kwari Community, Jigawa Tsada Ward, Jigawa State.

The programme, organised under the theme, “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works,” focused on equipping mothers and women of reproductive age with practical knowledge on proper nutrition and the importance of breastfeeding.

During the exercise, participants were sensitised on the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced diet, particularly during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as the nutritional benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for infants.

The participants were also taken through practical food preparation and nutrition demonstrations designed to strengthen their understanding of affordable and nutritious meals that can improve household nutrition outcomes.

CIDEV coordinator Dr. Murjanatu Iliyasu explained that the initiative was aimed at strengthening existing positive practices around breastfeeding and nutrition while encouraging mothers to adopt healthy feeding practices that would contribute to the proper growth and development of children.

Iliyasu further stressed the need for increased community awareness and support for breastfeeding mothers, noting that proper nutrition and exclusive breastfeeding are essential for giving children a healthy start in life.

The sensitisation exercise brought together women from Gidan Kwari Community, who participated actively in discussions and practical sessions on breastfeeding, healthy diets and child nutrition.

The coordinator reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting community-based interventions that promote maternal, infant and child health, particularly through improved nutrition awareness and sustainable healthy practices.
