Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar A. Namadi, has approved the appointment of Dr. Sani Abdullahi Gumel as the pioneer Executive Secretary of the newly established Jigawa State Teacher Development Agency (JSTDA).
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim.
According to the statement, Dr. Gumel is an accomplished educationist with more than 30 years of experience in teaching, educational management and teacher development.
Before his appointment, he was a Senior Lecturer at the Jigawa State College of Education, Gumel.
Dr. Gumel holds a PhD in Science Education (Chemistry) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. During his career, he served as an Education Quality Specialist under the Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN), an Education Consultant with the Jigawa Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) office, and Head of the Department of Chemistry at the College of Education, Gumel.
The statement noted that he has made significant contributions to educational reforms, teacher capacity building and quality assurance initiatives across Jigawa State.
As the pioneer Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr. Gumel is expected to drive teacher professional development through regular capacity-building programmes, promote modern teaching methodologies and strengthen collaboration among key stakeholders to improve learning outcomes and educational standards across the state.
The government said the appointment was based on merit, competence and proven integrity.
Congratulating the new Executive Secretary, the SSG expressed confidence that Dr. Gumel’s extensive experience and professional expertise would support the successful take-off of the agency and advance the state’s education reform agenda.
The appointment takes immediate effect.
