A police officer has died from injuries sustained during an early-morning attack on the residence of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Aujara Division in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The incident occurred on November 25, 2025, at about 4:00 a.m., when unidentified gunmen launched a violent assault on the DPO’s residence, according to a statement issued by the Jigawa State Police Command.
Police personnel on guard duty reportedly engaged the attackers in an effort to repel the assault. During the exchange, two officers were seriously injured and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
However, one of the injured officers died the following day, on November 26, 2025, from complications related to the attack.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, expressed deep condolences to the family, colleagues, and friends of the fallen officer. He assured the public that the command has begun a thorough and diligent investigation to track down those responsible for what he described as a “dastardly act.”
Following the attack, the police command has intensified patrols, surveillance, and security presence in and around Aujara and neighboring communities to forestall further threats.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, who signed the statement, urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies with reliable information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
The attack adds to growing concern over rising threats against security personnel in Northern Nigeria, where officers have increasingly become targets of armed groups.
