The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested several suspects over alleged attempted kidnapping for ransom, armed robbery, vandalism, cattle theft and other crimes in different parts of the state, recovering five motorcycles, four cows, electrical cables and suspected burglary tools.
The command said the arrests followed a series of intelligence-led operations carried out by police formations across the state between June 19 and 23, 2026.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, saying the operations were part of the command’s sustained campaign against crime and criminality.
According to the statement, operatives attached to Malam Madori Division arrested 25-year-old Usman Muhammad of Unguwar Ganye on June 19 after he was allegedly caught vandalising a coiled electrical extension cable at Gari Uku in Malam Madori Local Government Area.
Police said the cable was recovered, while the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation to carrying out the act with four accomplices who remain at large.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation, police in Kiyawa arrested two men over an alleged attempt to extort N4 million from a victim through threats of kidnapping or murder.
The suspects were identified as Abubakar Mohammed, 25, of Zawaya Village in Kiyawa LGA, and Sulaiman Idris, also known as “Hardo”, 27, of Manuna Village in Itas-Gadau LGA of Bauchi State.
The police alleged that the suspects made anonymous telephone calls to the victim, claiming they had been paid N2 million to kidnap or kill him and demanding N4 million from him.
The command said the suspects were tracked and arrested, adding that the case had been transferred to the SCID for discreet investigation and prosecution.
Also on June 21, operatives attached to Taura Division responded to a distress call over an armed robbery at Chuwasu Village, where suspected robbers allegedly attacked a resident with sticks and cutlasses before fleeing with his black Boxer motorcycle.
According to the police, the suspects abandoned the motorcycle and fled after sighting a responding patrol team. The motorcycle was recovered, while efforts are continuing to apprehend those involved.
In separate operations conducted by detectives from Taura, Malam Madori and Birniwa divisions, four suspected stolen cows were recovered.
Police identified the arrested suspects as Musa Shehu, 40, and Adamu Shehu, 30, both of Boguwa settlement camp. The recovered animals were later released to their owner on bond, while the case was charged to court.
The command also said detectives from Takur Site Division arrested 19-year-old Mustapha Umar of Azare LGA, Bauchi State, on June 22 in connection with the alleged theft of a Samsung A14 mobile phone belonging to Mercy Onoja.
During investigation, the suspect allegedly admitted conspiring with three others from Kaduna and Bauchi states who are currently at large.
A search of their hotel accommodation led to the recovery of a knife, master keys, screwdrivers, wristwatches, scissors, a mobile phone, a horn, perfume and other items suspected to be burglary tools, the police said.
Meanwhile, detectives attached to Kazaure Division dismantled an alleged motorcycle theft syndicate during an intelligence-led operation along Dandi-Kazaure Road on June 23.
The command said four suspects were arrested while allegedly attempting to dispose of a suspected stolen motorcycle.
Police identified the alleged gang leader as 48-year-old Aminu Adamu of Galadanchi Quarters in Kazaure town.
Further investigation, according to the statement, uncovered the syndicate’s alleged involvement in motorcycle theft and trafficking, leading to the recovery of four stolen motorcycles.
The command said four suspects were found culpable following investigation, while a principal suspect and another alleged accomplice remain at large. The case has since been charged to court.
The Acting Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State commended officers and men of the command for what he described as professionalism, vigilance and prompt response to intelligence.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, warning criminal elements that the state would remain hostile to criminal activities.
The police chief also urged residents to continue providing timely, credible and actionable information to security agencies to help prevent crime and facilitate the arrest of offenders.
