The Jigawa State Executive Council (SEC), chaired by Governor Umar A. Namadi, has approved projects and interventions worth over ₦2.5 billion aimed at boosting agriculture, education, infrastructure development, and social welfare across the state.
The decisions were reached during the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday, June 22, 2026, as part of the administration’s commitment to implementing its development agenda and improving the living conditions of citizens.
The resolutions were announced in a statement signed by Sagir Musa Ahmed, Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture.
N273.3 Million Approved for Greenhouse Farming Initiative
A major highlight of the meeting was the approval of ₦273.29 million for the construction of 20 greenhouse facilities across 10 local government areas.
The project will be implemented in Birnin Kudu, Gumel, Kafin Hausa, Kiyawa, Kirikasamma, Jahun, Malam Madori, Roni, Taura, and Sule Tankarkar Local Government Areas.
According to the Council, the initiative is designed to support 82 youths previously trained in modern soilless farming techniques at the Soilless Farm Lab in Abeokuta.
The greenhouse facilities are expected to provide practical opportunities for beneficiaries to apply their skills in controlled-environment agriculture, increase year-round crop production, promote agribusiness entrepreneurship, and improve food security across the state.
The government said the project would also create sustainable employment opportunities and enhance the economic wellbeing of participating youths.
The Council also approved compensation payments for individuals affected by ongoing development projects in the state.
A total of ₦337.37 million was approved for shop owners affected by the remodeling of Kafin Hausa Market, while ₦757.29 million was approved as compensation for structures impacted by the construction of Doko and Dangyatin township roads.
Council members emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that development projects are implemented with due consideration for the welfare and livelihoods of affected residents.
In another development, the Executive Council approved contracts valued at ₦623.62 million for the supply of female students’ uniforms and the procurement of official vehicles.
Under the education support initiative, 23,800 sets of uniforms will be supplied and distributed to female students in public schools across the state.
The government said the programme is intended to encourage school enrollment and retention while reducing the financial burden on parents and guardians.
The Council also approved the procurement of a fairly used Toyota Corolla LE, a brand-new 14-seater Toyota Hiace Bus, and a brand-new Toyota Hilux vehicle to improve official operations and service delivery in government institutions.
₦517.2 Million Released for Agricultural Mechanisation Programme
As part of efforts to enhance agricultural productivity, the Council approved the release of ₦517.22 million to facilitate the transportation of 100 subsidized tractors and agricultural implements from Abuja to Dutse under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme.
The fund will cover logistics and haulage services required for the safe movement of the tractors and related equipment to Jigawa State ahead of the current rainy season.
The government noted that the machinery would strengthen agricultural mechanisation efforts and support the state’s drive to transform farming from subsistence practice into a commercially viable sector.
The approvals underscore the Namadi administration’s continued focus on agriculture, education, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and social welfare as key pillars of its 12-Point Agenda.
